Rare 1937 Ingersoll Mickey Mouse watch with charms and chromium band
By 1936, sales of Ingersoll Mickey watches were in decline so the company decided on a revision. For Spring 1937, they issued a new design which had a single Mickey on the second wheel and which was in their first ever oblong case. The new design was marketed at first as a girl's model with a chromium link band and with 2 attached charms of Mickey Mouse, like those on the leather straps from the earlier years, of Mickey facing left. Apparently these charms were quickly used up and Disney contracted with the Briar Mfg. Co., the primary Disney licensee for juvenile jewelry who was producing enamel paint on brass charms of Disney characters for bracelets and sweater pins.
Introduced in the Fall of 1937, 1x1.25" metal case is attached to 21-link metal band w/pair of attached 7/8" tall enamel on brass charms of Mickey and Pluto. Mickey and Pluto charms are from the Briar Mfg. Co. and are attached to the chromium link band by a tiny brass ring as were the Minnie and Donald charms. On the back of each charm is a Disney mark consisting of "©WD." This is a variety as charms were also produced for Minnie and Donald Duck.
Watch dial features image of Mickey w/animated hands, second hand disc features single small image of Mickey that revolves as seconds tick. Mickey charm has tiny trace of paint wear and is Fine while Pluto is Exc. Case and band have near full, bright luster. Dial remains clean. Running. Rare, one of the top Disney timepieces.
